After generations of artist-led activism, it is perhaps unsurprising that activists, academics and art practitioners have sought the consolidate and reflect upon the history of activism through exhibition.

The Art of Resistance was the Trinity Centre’s unique programme of activities celebrating Bristol’s role as a centre of art and activism. The programme was built upon previous art and activism events at the Centre but also was inspired by Trinity’s role as a centre of radical activity over the years. The project featured two exhibitions over the course of its duration.

Much of the content for the radical section of this archive has been gathered as part of this project. In March 2022 Trinity hosted the Final Frontier a weekend celebration of talks, activities and performances.

What makes an activist? What makes people take action and create work? What is or isn’t art or an artefact? After The Fire was a thought-provoking odyssey through the sounds and sights of Bristol’s protest history in recent years, answering and challenging how we see art and activism through the stories and work of local/national artists and activists.
