Roberto Carlos Lange, better known by his stage name Helado Negro, is an award-winning, Brooklyn-based, Ecuadorian artist who has spent more than a decade refining his sound. Somewhere between synth-folk and alt-pop, his music is a soothing, dreamlike collage of live, unorthodox instruments. Helado released his first full-length album, Awe Owe, in 2009 and later went on to be awarded a United States Artists Fellow in Music.
Ever consistent in his personal, political, and bilingual lyrics, Helado’s 2021 release, Far In, is a reminder that hope is up ahead. The artist introduces a new focus on rhythm through a bouncy, syncopated keyboard pattern and a lilting bass line, shifting between comforting dream-like compositions and flashbacks of the party from the night before.
