Protests were very prevalent during the 1960s since there was plenty to protest against at the time, such as the Apartheid in South Africa, Human Rights, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Trade Unions.

Members of these marching bands were activists themselves who often supported protests during this time, providing solidarity and entertainment in a time of political upheaval. Pictured are the Pioneer Jazz Band and interestingly Paul Garland who was a member of the Communist party. This particular protest was around Anti-Apartheid.
